Awards

Alongside craft development NCCB has inspired artisans by honouring excellence in craftsmanship through its various Award programmes.

NCCB has annual awards for Mastercraftsperson and Young Craftsperson covering different age groups and inspiring artisans of all ages to strive for excellence. The Mastercraftsperson Lifetime Award acknowledges the creativity, aesthetics and rare skill of Masters as well as their contribution of sharing their skill with the younger generation. Since 1998 the Shilu Abed Mastercraftsperson Lifetime Award under new sponsorship. NCCB is deeply committed to the encouragement and promotion of crafts and craftspeople of this country; its efforts are supported by its multidisciplinary membership.

Three Annual Awards are given to acknowledge and honour the outstanding skill of craftspeople, at various stages of their lives.

Mastercraftsperson Lifetime Award

Mastercraftsperson Lifetime Award for masters who have dedicated their lives to crafts and trained younger artisans over the years. Craft fairs are organised with each of these events to enable artisans to expand their marketing options and demonstrate their creative skill. The Mastercraftsperson Lifetime Award is a rare honour bestowed upon senior artisans whose work represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship. Recognising both technical mastery and artistic expression, it celebrates individuals who have dedicated their lives to preserving, innovating, and passing on traditional knowledge. Beyond personal achievement, the award values their role as teachers and mentors, fostering intergenerational transmission of skills and values. These masters embody resilience, cultural pride, and creative excellence, leaving an enduring legacy for future generations. Through this award, NCCB acknowledges the irreplaceable contributions of master artisans whose lives and artistry inspire communities and strengthen national cultural heritage.

Every year for the Mastercraftsperson Lifetime Award NCCB selects a particular craft medium; best quality submissions are invited and collected countrywide; through a stringent process a highly qualified Jury Board makes the final selection, based on the quality of craftsmanship and lifelong contribution to the craft sector, particularly in developing the next generation of artisans. From 2016 the Trustees of A  F Mujjibur Foundation is sponsoring this award.
